The Ashburn Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department (AVFRD) held its annual elections during the company meeting on December 2, 2024. Members gathered to vote for key leadership roles, elect new board members, and approve a comprehensive rewrite of the organization’s by-laws, marking a significant milestone as AVFRD moves into 2025.

Leadership Election Results

The department proudly welcomes Samantha Bailey as its newly elected President, succeeding outgoing President Josh Townsend. Bailey, who served as vice president for the past two years, is eager to take on her new leadership role and continue driving AVFRD’s mission forward. After six years of dedicated service as President, Townsend will remain a vital part of the leadership team as the newly elected Vice-President.

The executive leadership team also sees two new faces:

  • Sherry Fisher has joined the board as Treasurer.
  • Amy Cannon has been elected as Secretary.

Sherry and Amy are warmly welcomed to their roles and expected to bring fresh perspectives and valuable contributions to the team.

Operational Leadership

Chief William Graham and Assistant Chief of EMS Mike Walsh have been re-elected to their respective positions, ensuring experienced leadership for another term. The department is also pleased to welcome David Holtz as the new Assistant Chief of Fire.

Board of Directors

In the Board of Directors election, John DeLooper and Brian Romola were re-elected as Directors at Large, continuing their commitment to the department. Additionally, AVFRD welcomes two new Directors at Large: Daniel Doherty and Ryan Borrell.
