General Donations
Dear Neighbor,
For 75 years, the men and women of the Ashburn Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department (AVFRD) have freely given their time, talents and energy to provide the highest levels of fire and rescue service possible to the Ashburn community. Our service is inspired by our belief that when neighbors help neighbors, true community emerges and we become closer, stronger, and safer as a whole. Our volunteers are your neighbors – a diverse group of people from all walks of life who work together to serve you and the rest of our community.
AVFRD is a 100% volunteer-run non-profit organization providing fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical services to over 40,000 homes and businesses in the Ashburn area. We can do this thanks to the hundreds of dedicated volunteers that make up our organization. These volunteers donated an estimated 100,000 hours of unpaid time this year alone. They staff fire trucks and ambulances (owned and maintained by AVFRD) at both Station 6 on Ashburn Road (also owned by AVFRD) and Station 22 in Lansdowne from 6pm to 6am every night.
Having a world-class volunteer-run fire and rescue department in your community offers YOU many benefits:
- Our highly trained and certified personnel live in our community and are ready to respond to emergencies at any time and anywhere in the community, even when they’re not on duty– in the grocery store, schools, and the offices in which we work.
- Ashburn residents realize substantial property tax savings because we are a volunteer-run non-profit organization. A Loudoun County Government analysis conducted in 2018 showed that the volunteer fire and rescue system provides approximately $27.7 million in annual value to taxpayers in the County. This equates to hundreds of dollars in property tax savings for the average Ashburn homeowner each year! AVFRD’s ability to operate efficiently also contributes to these savings. For example, we built our new Ashburn Road station for approximately 35% less cost (and it is about 40% larger in square footage) than the most recently constructed Loudoun County fire station.
We invite you to join in our mission of service to the Ashburn community. You can be part of our mission in one of three ways:
- Volunteer: Give your time and talents as a volunteer firefighter, EMT, or as part of our administrative/auxiliary team. No experience is necessary – we’ll provide all the training you need. Visit the following to learn more: https://ashburnfirerescue.org/volunteer
- Donate: We rely on the generosity of our neighbors to support the operations of the Department. Please consider a donation of $50, $150, $250 or more in your end-of-year giving. Donations may be sent to the station at AVFRD, 20688 Ashburn Road, Ashburn, VA 20147 or visit the following to give online: https://ashburnfirerescue.org/go/donate
- Support: Let your elected officials know that you support a strong volunteer fire rescue presence in the county, not only because of the savings we drive but because having neighbors helping neighbors is critical to our safety and sense of community.
Your neighbors at AVFRD wish you Happy Holidays and a safe and healthy New Year. Rest assured, AVFRD will be there for you if you ever need us. Thank you in advance for supporting us. We are honored to serve you.
