AVFRD Open House & Fire Prevention Week 2026

Every fall, the Ashburn Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department welcomes the community to our annual Open House, a family-friendly event focused on fire prevention, life safety, and community engagement. This year is especially meaningful as AVFRD celebrates 82 years of serving the Ashburn community, and we hope you’ll join us for this special occasion.

Our Open House is an opportunity to meet the firefighters, EMTs, and volunteers who proudly serve our community. Visitors can tour the station, explore our emergency apparatus, watch demonstrations, learn valuable fire and life safety information, and enjoy activities for the whole family.

Our Open House is held during Fire Prevention Week, October 4 through October 10, 2026. This year’s national theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” focuses on the safe use and charging of lithium-ion batteries.

Lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices we rely on every day, including smartphones, tablets, laptops, power tools, e-bikes, e-scooters, and children’s toys. While these batteries are safe when used properly, they can become dangerous if they are damaged or charged incorrectly. In some cases, they can overheat, catch fire, or even explode.

Throughout the event, AVFRD personnel will share practical tips on lithium-ion battery safety, fire prevention, emergency preparedness, and ways to keep your family safe at home.

Whether you’re interested in learning more about fire safety, exploring our fire engines and ambulances, or simply meeting the men and women who serve your community, there’s something for everyone at the AVFRD Open House. We look forward to welcoming you as we celebrate 82 years of service and Fire Prevention Week 2026.

INFORMATION TO KNOW!

Parking:

Parking is available at Cedar Lane Elementary School on Tolomac Drive. We’ll have a shuttle running to bring you back and forth between the school and the fire station.
