Emergency Medical Services

The Ashburn Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department (AVFRD) provides first response Advanced Life Support (ALS) Paramedic level and Basic Life Support (BLS) EMT level services to Ashburn and surrounding areas in Loudoun County, VA. AVFRD operates 2 fully equipped BLS ambulances daily, staffed with a minimum of one EMS certified driver and  one Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
The Department’s EMS division is an active participant in the Loudoun County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) System.  The Department routinely works with our Loudoun County and Air Care providers in order to rapidly transport critical patients from all locations to definitive care.  The Department conducts extensive in-service training on a routine basis to insure the most up to date EMS skills, procedures, and practices are implemented and delivered to the citizens and visitors of Ashburn and Loudoun County.

EMS BILLING:

In 2014, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors voted to approve a new Chapter of the Codified Ordinances to establish the Emgerceny Medical Services (EMS) Transport Reimbursement Program.    The Board directed that Loudoun’s fee structure be based on the current market but no higher than 10% over the highest comparable neighboring jurisdiction. The fees are: $467 for Basic Life Support, $660 for Advanced Life Support I and $770 for Advanced Life Support II. If you are transported by ambulance to the hospital, your insurance company, Medicare or Medicaid will be billed first. The focus of the reimbursement program is insurance companies, not private citizens.

The funds received from the program will be directed back to the Fire-Rescue system to include volunteer companies. The money will pay for training, equipment, specialty apparatus, and support personnel.
