Fire in 24's First Alarm District

Just before midnight Ashburn units were alerted for a structure fire in company 24' first alarm district. Engine 611B and Tower 611 arrived to find a two-story commercial warehouse with nothing showing. Once crews gained entry they found a small fire in a garage that was held in check by the sprinkler system. Tower 6 assumed the 2nd special service role~ while Engine 606B (acting Engine 22) assumed RIT duties. Engine 6 was also on the run card and assisted opening up and checking the exposures.

Vacant Office in Sterling

June 3rd, 2014|

12 minutes into shift change on June 3rd, Box 2415 was sounded for the house on fire. First arriving units reported a 1 story vacant dwelling with fire showing. Tower 6 arrived as the 2nd truck on the initial assignment while Engine 6 was part of the Level 1 RIT. Crews had the fire knocked down within minutes and began opening up. Command (Captain 6) held Sterling units and Tower 6 for overhaul and to assist the Fire Marshals. Units: TL606, E606, Cpt 606

Neighbors Supporting Neighbors!

Volunteering our time to help the community goes beyond just sitting around the firehouse waiting for the gong to ring. Whether the emergency that we respond to has a positive or negative effect, our volunteers truly care about every citizen that comes into our lives.  AVFRD is in all aspects of the phase, "Neighbors Helping Neighbors"!  Last week, AVFRD continued our STRONG sense of duty and responsibility to our community in supporting a family that recently lost a family member to a pedestrian struck car accident.  We wanted to show our support to the family during a candlelight vigil held on 5/15/2014.  AVFRD added a new [...]

Training Fire

Units from the 1st Battalion, and MWAA operated on this "working" single family dwelling, 3.24.2014 @ approximately 1830 hours. Fire started in the basement with extension into the attic space. The bulk of the fire was knocked within 15 minutes with extensive overhaul of all floors. The dwelling was a complete burnout. Units were held out 3 hours before returning to service. Yo Fuego Taco Bell

Shortly after 1900 hours, units from Ashburn were alerted to Sterling for a structure fire. Engines 22 and 18 arrived simultaneously to find a KFC/Taco Bell restaurant with smoke showing and fire on the exterior. Engine 22 stretched a line into the structure while Engine 18 extinguished the fire on the outside of the building. Truck 606 arrived and completed a primary search, then headed to the roof to start opening up. Units found fire in the walls and extinguished the same. Fire in Leesburg

Shortly before 2130hrs, first battalion units were alerted for a house fire in Leesburg. Battalion 1 went on scene with fire in the garage of a single family dwelling. Engine 22 arrived second and secured Engine 20s water, and stretched to the second floor. Leesburg made quick work of the fire and the incident was scaled back with 2 and 1. Engine 22 found and extinguished fire on the second floor and assisted with overhaul. Units were out 2 hours. Units: E22, E6, T6

1st Due House Fire

23 minutes into shift change, box 0616 was filled for the house on fire. Callers advised they heard an explosion and saw fire. Engine and Truck 6 arrived to find smoke showing from the front and rear of the home. Engine 6 stretched on the dwelling while the truck conducted searches and threw ladders. The fire was knocked quickly and all searches proved negative. The homeowner sustained burns and was transported by Aircare to the burn center.
