International Firefighters Day, is observed on May 4th in honor of Saint Florian, the Catholic patron saint of firefighters. It is a day to honor and recognize the dedication, courage and sacrifices of firefighters across the world. It was first instituted in 1999 after the tragic death of five firefighters in a bushfire in Australia.

Virginia’s Governor Glenn Youngkin has proclaimed today is Firefighters Day.  Click here to read the proclamation.
