The Volunteer Firefighter is a non-compensated position that performs difficult service work providing fire suppression, emergency medical services, and other emergency responses.  Work is performed under emergency conditions and usually involves an element of personal danger.  Work is performed under regular supervision.

Essential Functions

  • Responding to emergency calls; suppressing fires; rendering medical aid; preparing and maintaining detailed records.
  • Train as though your life and the lives of your friends and neighbors depend on your readiness.  Volunteer Firefighters participate in drills and attend classes on fire suppression, disaster control, and related fields, maintain skill level through ongoing training to prevent degradation of skills;
  • Participates in community awareness and public education programs; maintains apparatus and equipment in ready condition; assists in the inspection and maintenance of equipment and apparatus

The Volunteer Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is a non-compensated position that performs difficult service work providing emergency medical care.  Work is performed under emergency conditions and usually involves an element of personal danger.  Work is performed under regular supervision.

Volunteer EMS Providers do not perform fire suppression activities and typically staff an ambulance/medic unit.  Their service is limited to functions that are classified as Emergency Medical Services.

Volunteer Administrative Support Member Application

The Volunteer Administrative Support Member is a non-compensated position that provided the non-emergency services that support the daily operations and mission of the department. AVFRD needs individuals to lead and assist in many areas and with many jobs, including:

  • Building and Equipment Maintenance: Groundskeepers, Maintenance Agreements Coordinator
  • Community Relations and Education: Neighborhood Liaisons, School Coordinators, Station Tour Guides
  • Financial and Document Management: Scholarship Manager, Historians, Record Keepers, Bookkeeper, Database Administrator
  • Fundraising: Grant Writers, Event Planners/Project Managers, Corporate Sponsor Seekers
  • Publicity and Marketing: Writers, Graphic Designers, Media Relations Liaison, Video and Multimedia Specialists
  • Recruitment and Membership: Volunteer Coordinators, Recruitment Activities Coordinator, Retention/Appreciation Event Planners, Awards and Recognition Manager, Survey Coordinator
